Gezhouba Hydropower Station
The Gezhouba Hydropower Complex is located about 2.3 km downstream to the Yangtze River’s Nanjin Pass in Yichang, Hubei. It is the shipping cascade of the Three Gorges Hydropower Complex, located 38 km downstream of TGP. The Gezhouba Hydropower Complex effectively regulates the water flow and generates a significant amount of power by harnessing differences in water levels. It is the first large-scale hydropower complex to be built on the Yangtze River’s main section, as well as the largest run-of-the-river hydropower plant, with a low water head and high flow.
The construction of the Gezhouba Hydropower Station commenced in May 1971 and was completed in December 1988. In 2022, Gezhouba achieved an annual output of more than 18.56 TWh.
